The National Coalition on School Diversity is excited to announce our 2017 national conference, “A Struggle We Must Win: Advancing School Integration through Activism, Youth Voice, and Policy Reform.”
We have recently opened submissions for workshop proposals. Some of the topics/issues we hope to include in the workshops are:
- State/local-led integration efforts (including those in organizing stage)
- Centering student voice
- Power shifting
- Empowering another generation of integration activists, scholars, advocates, and policymakers
- Framing, messaging, narrative
- Research and evaluation
- Practical tools for activists (e.g. conducting a power analysis, facilitation skillbuilding, being on the front line, self care)
- Making integration work in schools (pedagogy, curriculum, school climate, discipline)
- Anti-racist practices and/or decentering whiteness w/in the integration movement
- Litigation, legal theory, and advocacy strategies
- Democracy
- Connecting integration to other social justice or education issues/movements
