The Sillerman Center for the Advancement of Philanthropy

The Sillerman Center for the Advancement of Philanthropy draws upon scholarship and practitioner experience to inform philanthropy that moves social justice work forward. We engage emerging and established members of the philanthropic community via publications and programming and through coursework and fellowships that provide real-world experience in social justice grant-making.

Established in 2008, the Center draws upon the deep and diverse expertise of faculty and researchers at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.

In order to inform and advance social justice philanthropy, Sillerman:

  • Produces and disseminates usable publications to guide funding in social justice areas
  • Informs and engages grantmakers through events and presentations that draw on research and experience on the ground
  • Offers courses and fellowships and mentoring for students who want to learn about or work in the philanthropic sector
  • Builds strategic partnerships and implements long-term projects with foundations, with community-based leaders and nonprofit organizations to inform philanthropic strategy and giving and to amplify the voices and values of grantmakers and others engaged in social justice work.
